          Two Technician Types

    Installation- recommend at least one year experience - If you have less experience, you should have taken and passed the Industry Competency Exam

     OR

     Service- recommend at least two years experience
     Service Technicians are automatically certjfied as Installation Technicians as well

            Specialties Available

    • Air Conditioning   • Air Distribution   • Gas Heating

    • Heat Pumps   • Oil Heating   • Hydronic

     If you take and pass the Heat Pump Specialty, you also earn your Air Conditioning certification

           Exam Structure
     To earn certification, each candidate must take and pass a Core exam AND at least one Specialty exam of their choice. Additional certifications may then be earned by taking and passing additional Specialty exams.

    Core Exam—50 questions
    Covers Safety, Tools, Soft Skills, Principles of Heat Transfer and Total Comfort, and Electrical

    Passing grade is 70 percent correct of all questions

    Specialty Exams— 100 questions
    Covers Installation, Service, System Components, Applied Knowledge, Regulations, Codes, andDesign

    Passing grade is 70 percent correct of all questions

    Each exam session lasts a maximum of four hours. Most candidates should be able to take the Core exam and one Specialty exam in that time frame.
